With a vision to ‘Cultivate one Million Children in India as Neoteric Innovators’, Atal Innovation Mission is establishing Atal Tinkering Laboratories (ATLs) in Kendriya Vidyalayas across India.
The scheme aims to foster curiosity, creativity, and imagination in young minds; and inculcate skills such as design mindset, computational thinking, adaptive learning, physical computing, etc. In order to foster inventiveness among students, ATLs conduct different activities ranging from regional and national level competitions, exhibitions, workshops on problem solving, designing and fabrication of products, lecture series etc., at periodic intervals.
The Atal Tinkering Lab (ATL) was established at PMSHRI KV NO.1 PALAKKAD during the academic year 2017-18, supported by a grant of 16 lakhs for its setup and maintenance. Sessions within the ATL are meticulously planned and conducted in a structured manner, often scheduled on Saturdays. From classes 7 to 11, a total of thirty students were chosen based on their enthusiasm for tinkering. These ATL students have actively participated in diverse events such as science exhibitions, ATL marathons, and innovation contests, earning numerous accolades along the way.
